Whilst our experience is that there is no one best methodology for implementing strategy (we have seen different organisations succeed with many different methodologies including Hoshin Kanri, OKRs and Balanced Scorecards) we have come to learn that there are a common set of guiding principles that underpin the success of any high-performance organisation. With this in mind, we have designed the Breakthrough Business System to enable any organisation to choose the core methodologies that they want to base their business system on whilst ensuring that the principles that underpin the successful implementation of those methodologies are reinforced.​

We designed the Breakthrough Business System to give organisations the flexibility to decide which core best practices they wish to incorporate in their Lean Business System. Some best practices are essentially interchangeable – you can base your Strategy Implementation (Breakthrough) system on Hoshin Kanri, OKRs, the Balanced Scorecard or even just simple Project to Goal Alignment. Each practice has its pros and cons. Or you can choose to incorporate different best practices into your system to support operating units at different level of maturity.
